Old Kona Airport Beach, Big Island of Hawaii
The last few days I have been drawn to adding beautiful photos that I find healing. I hope that these photos bring you pleasure as well. This beach is gorgeous, quiet and quite unique. It used to be next to the runways of the old Kona Airport. To reach the beach you actually drive down what used to be runways for the airplanes, kind of cool and bizzare all at the same time. Definetely worth a visit or two!

Islands Magazine

I LOVE this magazine! Whenever I need an exotic tropical boost I pick up this magazine and feel that I’m transported to a tropical paradise. I particularly LOVE the Special Issue: HOW TO RUN AWAY TO PARADISE. This issue has an article called The 20 Best Islands To Live On. This article rates a variety of islands around the globe for most livable; included in this article are a sample of home prices, weather, island life, hospitals and tropical retreats on each island to visit and explore. I especially liked the fact that they researched island accomodations so you can get a flavor of each particular island before you take the leap to move and buy. Very Cool article!

A number of years ago I had a chance to visit the island of Pohnpei. I had a fabulous time and I would return in a heartbeat. The hotel my friends and I stayed at was gorgeous, natural and allowed us to experience the island in a lovely way.Today as I was desiring a tropical fix I searched Pohnpei on google and found a nice site for information on the island AND a site for our beautiful hotel. Enjoy!

Click here to view a youtube video of hiking on the island of Pohnpei.
Today I have been in need of a break from my regular life….I have been missing travel and adventure. What a surprise, anyone who is in the midst of selling their house and dealing with everything required to do when selling and moving can probably relate to the feeling of desiring an amazing escape. A reminder of a Micronesia with this cool Pohnepei video certainly gave me a visual reminder of paradise.
Enjoy Pohnpei

My day at the beach on Grand Caymen….a real paradise
I just discovered a wonderful little treasure through msn’s main page. They have a link to these tropical drink recipes, but what it really is, is a link to a set of pages put together by Westin Hotels which feature wonderful pictures and music and I believe they called it a Five Minute Vacation or Escape. The drink recipes were just one part of the entire section. Even for someone who lives in warm sunny Florida I found the pictures and music breathtaking and relaxing! They also offer a screen saver download. Way to go Westin Hotels!
Later if the link is gone, try Westin’s Website, they put a lot of effort into this set of pages, it is gorgeous, relaxing and inviting. I’m sure it will be there for some time to come!!

Canoe and children picture taken on the Big Island of Hawaii.
Beach shot Kailua Beach, Oahu, Hawaii.
Whenever I am feeling in need of tranquility I think back to moments I’ve experienced while living on islands in the Pacific. Guam sunsets at Tahiti Rama’s…sadly now long gone from Tumon Bay. Where tables graced the sand and your feet could feel the softness of the sand while you enjoyed a drink with a lover or friend.
Oahu, Hawaii, where I loved driving along the North Shore in the winter months when the beaches were closed to all but the very best or insane ….surfers. Along with many others I would sit on the sand, mesmerized by the huge waves and the skill of those surfing the dangerous waves. I find a sense of peace in the magnitude and strength of the ocean. It reminds me that my struggles and problems are just one small part of a whole and to work at taking a larger view of the struggle I may be facing. (I could certainly use that bit of my own advice today…..laughter.) There is something special about islands, they touch me with their magic and their beauty. May these pictures bring each of you a sense of the beauty, tranquility and peace I found there. Treasure your day!

Plumeria flowers on the Big Island of Hawaii
There is a book I love, that I keep on my dresser. When I want an uplifting quick read about the islands of the world I open this book to a random page and for a moment I am transported back to the islands I’ve lived on and loved in my life.
Today my random page in “Island Wise”
“lessons in living from the islands of the world” is from the island of Jamaica.
“The first thing I do when I come to Jamaica is to bury my watch in the suitcase and set my inner clock to the islands pure tropical tranquility-that slow cooking joy that the islanders create just by viewing time in their own unique way.”
“Dr. Breeze is their name for the trade winds that blow in over the Caribbean Sea to cool an island day. The doctor just makes everything feel “irie” they say, i.e., simply wonderful. And if the bus, your dinner, or your guide is late, someone calmly says, “Soon come.” Translation: It’ll happen sooner or later, just relax.”
“It doesn’t take long to begin to appreciate this “soon come” take on life. It’s the essence of island time.”
